Intersectionals

Intersectional Hybrids are the result of crossing herbaceous peonies with woody peonies and are the newest group in peony breeding. Only with this breeding success has it been possible to combine the flower colors and flower size of woody peonies with the growth of herbaceous peonies, combining the advantages of both parent species. These plants are much hardier than the woodies and herbaceous peonies. The growth of Itoh hybrids is similar to that of woody peonies. However, the plants die back every fall, as it is known from the herbaceous. Itoh hybrids keep their decorative foliage very long into late fall and are characterized by exceptionally good health and very vigorous growth.
